Didn't realize that this movie will be showing in Qatar Cinema so soon! Yay - another movie shot in Istanbul. It is really time to visit Istanbul again. Such beautiful country that this is not the first James Bond movie taken in this setting. And for sure this will not be the last. Really missing Constantinople! And we are so excited to for the entire family to visit the country again!
For the mean time, we are considering watching the movie! It is already showing in City Centre and Villagio Cinemas.
Bourne Legacy was partly taken in the Philippines. PARTLY. Not all scenes were taken in the Philippines. We thought, all the while, with so much hype and publicity about the movie taken in the Philippines that it's all throughout showing the touristic spots. But we were mistaken, the movie was too long and too boring; Matt Damon made the right call not to make another Bourne movie.
As for the Philippine setting, showing the Philippine traffic in a Hollywood movie is really something. Gotta love the motorcycle chase, bumping into jeepneys here and there! We felt homesick but not too sentimental because the movie is really boring. Too boring that we noticed lots of movie goers left in the middle of the movie.
Big shame but of course, if there will be part two for this movie, we are ready to watch for another Philippine scene.
The long wait in Qatar is over! It's showing this weekend at City Center. What a waiting period: July 20 to August 16! We started watching the movie yesterday over the internet, it was horrid! The copy and quality of movie in the internet, I mean.
But it will be showing tomorrow - big YAY! Thanks goodness, saw one of the tweets of a Pinoy journalist in Doha!
Since the kids love Tinker Bell, we were about to get on the car and run to the closest cinema but luckily, we didn't. It was already uploaded in the web and this is where we watched it:
Great movie video quality. So clear; might be clearer than in Qatar Cinemas. Might be, ha! And we were able to watch it at the comfort of our bed together :
enjoying the movie at home - and it's showing in Qatar Cinema
And this is what our dear princess has to say about the movie.
Probably the worst movie that I have ever seen in cinema. Please do not watch The Amazing Spiderman. Not only was it a big waste of money but an insult to anyone's intelligence.
Well, there are some good 3D effects, that is the only positive thing I could tell. Overall, it's a big embarrassment to the Marvel story.
Why did they start over and change some major details about the Spiderman is just very wrong.
Here's our honest review: DON'T WATCH THIS MOVIE! Or.. just don't expect too much!
Brave the movie is showing in other parts of the world but not in Qatar Cinema. It might be showing next week though, and we are very tempted to watch. Let's hope that City Centre Cinema will open real soon.
We heard quite a lot of great reviews about the movie especially from Geek Dad. If the title suggests something, it's the golden lesson of the story - about being brave, then we are definitely watching this movie. Here's the trailer:
This movie might be showing in Qatar Cinema next week! Maybe.
We really haven't seen Madagascar 3 in Qatar Cinemas! It's just way too scary to be in the cinema nowadays with the safety issues! Both cinemas in Villagio and City Centre are closed indefinitely. The two malls are closed until safety issues are corrected.
We normally watched at The Mall but with the two cinemas are closed, we are scared it might get too crowded. And it gets more dangerous with many people in one confined space. I realized that the cinema in The Mall has only one exit! God forbid that fire happens, stampede may occur and a lot of other awful things in my mind. So we are waiting for a clear movie in the internet. This is where we get the movie: Madagascar 3
We read a lot of positive reviews how good the movie is. Shame that we can't watch this movie in the big screen. For now, it has to be good enough to watch downloaded movie.
Alex, Marty, Gloria, Melman and of course the penguins, for sure, will not let us down and will keep us laughing all through out the movie, we hope!
Time flies so fast indeed when you are with family in Doha. Can't believe we missed the first day of Men in Black III in Cinema last 25th May 2012. Oh well, we are watching tonight and availing of the QTEL Cinema Promotion, two tickets for the price of one - AWESOME.
We read the reviews and it was all good! Can't wait to see the movie.
While watching The Pirates! Band of Misfits, we have enjoyed watching the preview, especially the ICE AGE 4 CONTINENTAL DRIFT. It's showing on Cinema this coming July! Now, that's one thing to look forward to this summer 2012.
During the school term break, we allowed the kids to stay up late and watch a late screening of The Pirates: Band of Misfits. The kids like it a lot especially the 3D part; can't help but adore the tiny 3D glasses for kids at City Centre. We always tend to go to The Mall Cinema because it is much closer to us but watching in the City Centre Cinema does make a lot of difference for viewing pleasure.
Anyway, the movie is not really for kids only - we have laughed out loud together as family and it was pretty amazing.
Here is the movie trailer:
Yes - that was Hugh Grant's voice. He is Pirate Captain. That's a thumbs up from Mommy of course.
The animation is great coming from the maker of Chicken Run but there are some lousy writing in the movie. The story is about Pirate Captain vying for Pirate of the Year Award. It's a bit cheesy and no-brainer movie but the script, as I have said has its moments.
It was good fun for the kids and for us too. We did laugh our booty off - confused Kylie what the real meaning of "booty" is. HAHA!
Gotta love term breaks!
eating his corn for the movie!
Pirate Daddy all set to watch the movie!
Here's the plot from Wikipedia since the movie is about to released in other parts of the world, including US. Go figure, this was released first in UK and Middle East. The part of the world where BOOTY is commonly used secretly.
A crew of amateur pirates, under the direction of the ambitious, but equally inexpert Pirate Captain, try to plunder ships so that the Pirate Captain can accomplish his dream of winning the Pirate of the Year Award and outsmart his rivals, Black Bellamy and Cutlass Liz. After various failed raids on useless ships - including a plague boat, a nudist boat, and a ghost ship - they hijack the Beagle and encounter Charles Darwin, who informs them that Polly, the supposed parrot of the pirate crew, is actually the last living dodo. The pirates go with Darwin and his trained chimpanzee Mr. Bobo to London to show Polly to the Royal Society. Their plan is a success, but the pirates (who are disguised as scientists) are unmasked by Queen Victoria, who hates pirates.
The Pirate Captain leaves Polly with the queen in return for a pardon and a large gold treasure. He presents the treasure at the Pirate of the Year competition, but is disqualified and exiled when his pardon is discovered; in addition, his crew abandons him when they learn that he sold Polly. Returning to London in an attempt to save Polly, the Pirate Captain reunites with Darwin. Together, they find out that Queen Victoria is planning to eat Polly and other rare animals at a secret meeting with other heads of state on her flagship, the QV1. The duo hijack an airship from the Royal Society, and flew to the QV1 and confront Victoria. With the support of the pirate crew and Mr. Bobo, they are able to save Polly, sink the QV1 and defeat Victoria. In the end, the Pirate Captain learns the value of friendship and loyalty while Darwin finds a girlfriend on the Galapagos Islands and Mr. Bobo joins the pirate crew.
For today, the Lorax Movie is a perfect way to spend a windy and dusty Friday afternoon! And a perfect way to celebrate Dr. Seuss' birthday.
We have been so excited about The Lorax movie for two months now. We have read the book and iPad application again and again and again.... Until the lesson of the book is embedded in our day-to-day thinking. We even reviewed the book again and again.
"Unless someone like you...cares a whole awful lot...nothing is going to get better... It's not." - The Lorax (Dr. Seuss)
Apart from story of Aubrey and Ted, the movie really reflects characters from the book, The Lorax. And what lovely characters they are: Swomee-Swans, Brown Bar-ba-loots and Humming Fishes. In the movie, we just can't help but love the Humming Fishes. They do have some tunes. So creative! The Brown Bar-ba-loots are just way too cuddly and cute - just as we have imagined them. The Swomee-Swans are just as adorable.
Just take a look at this movie clip. Love these book characters.
What I didn't like the most is the story is the marshmallows which I find so shallow. That rhymes! I don't get it and I don't like it. And there are lots of other comedy stuff not have been overdone it became way too fake and shallow.
As much as the movie captured the book characters, the story outside The Lorax book is not every well written for me and not fit for kids six years below. It's true though. Boys will not do something stupid twice unless they are trying to impress a girl. Just like Ted tried to get out of town to visit the Once-ler thrice. He was doing it for Aubrey and not because he cares an awful whole lot. Kinda defeats the purpose of the caring for environment if you only are trying to impress a girl. But I can't think of better way to have the story written which can be as interesting and not as boring. So, giving the movie a thumbs up just the same.
We do love the cool grandmother a lot! Adults can relate to the humour between her and Ted's mother. Kids not so much!
After Ted got the last seed of the Truffula seed, we were wondering what's next and we were eventually got bored with the car chase and the ending song. It was not as interesting anymore, just plain dragging.
It was not really a disappointing movie. Simply, it could have been done better.
she was so excited to watch the movie!
And he was so excited to eat his popcorn during the movie!
We watched the 3D version of the movie. I think there's not much difference though with 2D. The movie house was not at all crowded since we watched the first full show during the first day! Watching movie is always a fun day with family. The important thing is we all had fun together. And we did!
Another celebration of love - a spontaneous movie date with husband. Movie - Safe House starring Denzel Washington and Ryan Reynolds.
Husband finds the movie entertaining while I find it a bit dragging. The concept of the movie is something to think about though for real life. All government in the world have done something they are not proud of. Really!
Here's the movie description if you are considering this movie for a Valentine's Date - well, if you are newly dating - don't. Not a good idea for a movie date. But if you are like us, who are so into each other and been together like forever, go ahead, enjoy.
Safe House, Denzel Washington plays Tobin Frost, an expert CIA operative who went rogue and began selling trade secrets to the highest bidder, marking him as one of the most wanted men in the world. When Frost comes to Capetown, South Africa to receive a highly-sensitive piece of information from an MI6 contact, he finds himself surrounded by enemy assassins, with little other choice but to surrender himself to the American Consulate, lest he be shot down in the street.
The calculated risk lands Frost in a CIA safe house managed by rookie agent Matt Weston (Ryan Reynolds), who has been itching for a chance to prove himself in the field. Matt sees an opportunity in Frost – but barely a moment after his “house guest” has been secured, the safe house is attacked by the gunmen on Frost’s tail. Matt and Frost go on the lam, trying to stay ahead of their pursuers, while also entering into a deadly cat-and-mouse game of their own.

Can't decide yet? Here's the movie trailer:
Hoops, if you are in Doha and lives close by Landmark, Royal Plaza or The Mall, you may want to consider QTEL Promo, buy one ticket, get one free. Simply SMS FILM to 92000 and voila, you get two tickets for a price of one, QR35. Better watch during the weekdays as this promo is not valid during weekend. Enjoy!
The 3rd day of February is another celebration of love in the family - MOVIE DATE! Qatar Cinema is now showing Journey 2: The Mysterious Island!
We are feeling the love in this month way too much, right? A 3D movie, adventure genre and popcorn! Great times with family indeed. (Hoops, not with Kerim because he was sleeping and won't understand the concept of the movie anyways plus (BIG PLUS!) a peaceful way to watch a movie without running around with our hyperactive prince!)
tickets - checked!
popcorns and drink checked
3D glasses checked - all set!
At first I didn't want to watch the movie because it was not Brendan Fraser. Good thing my husband made me changed by mind. It's a great way to spend a lovely evening with family with Josh Hucherson, Dwayne Johnson and Michael Caine.
Kylie, as part of her writing skills, volunteered to write what the movie is about for our blog. Here she goes:
Sean wanted an adventure. Hank his good stepfather did not let Sean go. But Sean wanted to go. So hank let him to go with him. They found lots of scary creatures. And Sean found his grandfather on the way. Don't just stand there he said. They got in trouble with hummingbirds! but they got help with bees. And they got trouble with a giant lizard in the way to! They found a castle it happened 1000 years ago! The next morning it was gone it was under water! And they found a submarine they tried to turn on the electricity. They got in trouble with electric eel. Hank killed it. They went home at last. And they had one more adventure to do at space.
She was referring to Atlantis - when she referred to a castle. She liked the movie a lot and requested me to get copies of the three books which were used to find the mysterious island. That's one good way to encourage kids to read.
Here's the video trailer for this must see movie: (check out this part - 2:17 - really a big hit for Kylie and the husband, okay for me too - damn right any woman will find that irresistible!)
We are so excited to see The Lorax Movie in Qatar Cinema! It will be showing March 2, 2012 worldwide and we are definitely wishing that it will be shown simultaneously in Qatar cinemas. This date coincides Dr. Seuss 108th birthday!
(On a side note - happy birthday Dr. Suess! Thank you for bringing so much joy and imagination to all kids of all ages around the world!)
We are so crazy about Dr. Suess's books. We have all his books in hard bound books or iPad application.
The movie is, of course, just an adaptation of the original book, The Lorax, but Dr. Suess imagination can be seen all throughout the movie, what a genius he truly was.
In the movie, Audrey is not in the original book. She's been added here and named after Dr. Seuss' widow. So smart, right?
We also love the fact that, Dr. Seuss' widow, Audrey Geisel, was the executive producer of the movie. She is doing the right thing to keep the memory of her beloved husband alive in all these productions, movies, Broadway musicals, TVs, applications.
The Lorax was first published in 1971 and was met with criticism by the logging community. Long before saving the Earth became a global concern, Dr. Seuss, speaking through his character the Lorax, warned against mindless progress and the danger it posed to the earth's natural beauty.
The book is awesome and great for kids. Grab you copy here and enjoy the book before the movie comes out.
Here are the full trailers for the movie, The Lorax. We prefer the second preview, how about you?
Official Trailer 1:
Official Trailer 2:
Will you be watching the movie with your kids? Do share.
Yes! Qatar Cinema is showing Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2! Oh what joy! We managed to catch the 5th show today at The Mall! As we have been watching in this place for quite sometime, we got so at home at Cinema 3 for 3D! Event the kids know their way around the movie house in the dark! (But they didn't bother anyone at all - I think!)
And a very loud shout out to Uncle Raynard for his treat - movie tickets, coffee and cinnamon roll, popcorn and nachos! A perfect movie night! We are loving this weekend so much already!
Well, do we think the movie is as awesome as the review? It is definitely great to watch how the book ended without actually reading the series! It was enlightening to say the very least. However, our attention was distracted by the very loud snore from the back of the cinema hoops, that's not a very good sign for a review - but hey, this is Doha!
We just arrived after the movie, it's late and really not up to a movie review just yet - so leaving all with the trailer of the Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 official trailer.
Here's the movie timings as well. Don't forget, if you plan to watch at City Centre, they open at 12:15PM during Fridays so do not attempt to watch early like we did during the Transformers.
There's not much interesting to watch this week in all Qatar Cinema. But last week, off we went to open the cinema at City Centre - and oh boy, did we wait to watch Transformers!
Take note: City Centre Cinema opens 12:15PM during Fridays! Remember that or you'll end up waiting like we did.
The good thing about Qatar Cinema is that despite the movie rating, PG-13, the kids were able to come in the Cinema. Kylie liked the concept of alien robots since most of his boy friends have their notebooks and bags with Transformer designs. The movie is just way too long for the kids, though. Kerim had a great 2-hour nap time.
Since the story focused on how the Autobots learn of a Cybertronian spacecraft hidden on the Moon, that walking on the moon part is so cool for Kylie. It was fun emphasizing to her that there are more awesome places than Earth!
For those of you who are yet to watch the movie, here's the preview. A good choice while waiting for Harry Potter in Qatar Cinema next week (finger-crossed!)
So we were so excited with Cars 2 showing in Qatar Cinema. Of course, we watched it to see if it will meet our high expectations. It kinda did - but in a different way.
In the movie, star race, Lightning McQueen and his pal Mater travelled to scenic countries to compete in the World Grand Prix Race. Mater got involved in an intriguing adventure of his own - an international espionage, this then became the focus of the movie and not the race.
Well, we loved the James Bond 007 thing - us the parents! The kids - not so much! I suppose the word "spy" for them is limited to I-spy games. But somehow Kylie was able to catch up and admire that purple girl spy who is into Tow Mater! The other focus of the movie, use of alternative fuel oil in cars, is also not picked up by the kids. However, it is an eye-opener for parents how alternative fuel could get so politically incorrect as perspectives can get manipulated by scientists, media and businessmen. - Heavy, I know!
Well, the lesson learned by the kids is that bestfriends stick with each other and they accept each other who ever they are - no need to change them, real best friends understand.
Kerim thought the movie was too long that he started to drag us out 30 minutes before movie ended. Oh boy!
I particularly liked that they paid a little tribute to Paul Newman - who voiced Doc Hudson - in the movie who died on September 26, 2008 after losing an ongoing cancer battle. Great thinking and great heart of the producers, I think!
The movie is really worth something for us, adults. The 3D adventure is a good lure for the kids. I suppose, I will make Kylie and Kerim watch this again when they are a bit older after giving brief background on espionage and alternative fuel. An interesting homework for me!
An important tip for Doha movie watchers: We didn't watch at the City Centre as we watched the movie on a Friday night (we're not that crazy!) We found a great movie house close home - at the Mall Cinema. Not that crowded and not a better cinema environment when watching with kids. (Telephone number is 44678666 - I think they book seating through phone.
Cars 2 Movie schedule at The Mall Cinema - 2:30PM, 4:45PM, 7:00PM.
We love Marvel Superheroes! Well, at least I do and Cihangir is learning to love it, too. Monday last week, we watched X-Men First Class, just the two of us. Obviously, we loved the alone moments we had, without the kids. Bless my sister Charissa for babysitting! So we just had to watch again, this time, the new release, Green Lantern! It was fabulous time spent as couple!
Green Lantern (2011) - In a universe vast as it was mysterious, a small but powerful force has existed for centuries. Protectors of peace and justice, they are called the Green Lantern Corps. A brotherhood of warriors sworn to keep intergalactic order, each Green Lantern wear a ring that grants him superpower. And of course, the newest recruit will be human, from Earth who will rise above all the other Green Lanterns. The human is to teach all creatures of the universe that it is more important to overcome fear than to be fearless.
Ryan Reynolds played Green Lantern seemed to be the perfect choice! Well, he's funny side is so fitting to the character of having no responsibility in life.
And did you know that Green Lantern is the most powerful superhero ever? Yes, even more powerful than superman! Well, Green Lantern is fights for justice, is "officially" trained to stop evil all over the galaxies and creates anything he can imagine from his "will" - that kind of tell us that he can do almost anything so long as he can visualize it and can overcome his fear.
Well, on the other hand, our Man of Steel, is just one lost child, abandoned on Earth who can be killed by krypronite.
Well, do not get me wrong. I love Superman as much as the next girl - but now, I love Green Lantern more.
X-Men First Class (2011) - In 1963 (time setting for First Class!), Charles Xavier starts up school and later a team, for humans with superhuman abilities. Among them is Erik Lensherr, his best friend and future archenemy - Magneto! And I have to admit, I can now understand why he became the villain. Shame on some of the humans, really!
Well, we rate two thumbs up for the two movies - way up for both! A very good stress reliever during hectic day at work and at home!
If you are in Doha, brave the travel to the cinema and go see a movie! These Marvel stories are so worth it!
Pure awesomeness indeed! Off the family went to watch the movie, Kung Fu Panda 2 and we were all pleased way better than the first Kung Fu Panda. Well except Kerim who was a bit bored after one hour but the laughter and the sighs I've heard from my two elder babies (the husband being the oldest!) made the movie so worth it.
INNER PEACE!
Go watch the movie! Showing in most Qatar Cinemas - well, that is if you are in the country. ;)
