Art Fun With Al Rawnaq Supplies!

Art sessions in Doha could be very expensive if we don't know where to get the cheap art supplies.  Good thing we were really close to Al Rawnaq in Old Airport Area. It's easy to take the kids to Al Rawnaq when they are bored and wanting to watch TV  (NO TV AT HOME MUCH!)

It's really not art lessons but rather messy play. We are masters of creating mess through art, if there is such a mastery. Art aside, it is another opportunity for great family bonding!

Easter Egg Fun

We have yet to attend Easter activities for kids here in Doha this year. We improvised and made a fun messy play. As our creativity as parents are extremely limited, we did what we could with what we have at home. And what fun and mess we made.

We attempted to color eggs for Easter egg hunt, but we made more mess than colored eggs. It was all good fun.

Step 1: Draw on the egg. 

Step 2: Prepare the egg dye: food colors + vinegar (olive oil optional) 

Step 3: Concentrate :)

Step 4: Get ready with the egg! 

Step 5: Dip, paint, finger paint or whatever method the kids like to do with the eggs! 

Step 6: Make a lot of mess! 

Step 7: Enjoy the mess!

Step 8: Make sure to torture the parents with the mess!

Step 9: Set aside the eggs for Easter egg hunt!

Well the kids did enjoy and the parents got extra exercise cleaning up the floor.

Messy Play: Paintings

Of course most of the messy plays we do, we get paintings out of it. But the idea of messy play is more like "it's a journey, not the destination kind of principle. Well, in messy play, it's not the output, but the method and enjoyment during playing.

I am not an expert (nor knowledgeable much) in messy play but I always make sure that the kids enjoy playing and hanging out inside the house. Life is way too short not to enjoy things we do at the moment.

I can't help it when they occasionally come up with great works. Of course, they always come up with great works in my eyes.

Doha Summer: Mermaid Window Mosaic and Science Car!

Doha Summer is off to a great start because the kids are going to Istanbul to enjoy less heat and humidity. But before mixed emotions, we have spent the last night of the Turknoys having fun with the Dad!

Off course, we love Messy Play Mosaic! And we're so excited to do these extra meticulous activity once again.

Messy Play: Window Mosaic

Ahh - messy play with window mosaic equals fun!

It's never boring to stay indoors especially if equipped with lots of activities for kids - which also means, lots of ways to be messy.

One easy way is mosaic for kids. In this case, we used window mosaic art kit. But there are other materials at home we could use for mosaic - paper, eggshells, glass, and lots of other mess!

It was fun making window mosaic and we are very keen to explore other materials next time.

Messy Play: Baking

We used to bake a lot especially Turnoy Brownies. I need to put this in our activity for this summer.

To see the kids smile after devouring the brownie is priceless!

Messy Play: Play Dough (Liquid Version!)

Okay there's no such thing as liquid play dough. But it is messy play! Attempted to created yellow play dough for some forming fun but the kids added too much water, and again, too much water. So this is what happened:

Needless to say, it turned out to be a very fun day of exploring!

Messy Play: Play Dough!

Messy Play is a very easy way to keep the kids busy - that is, if you don't mind the mess and the cleaning up part afterwords.

I always indulge the Turknoys for some messy time every once in a while, hey, the house is a big mess as it is!

Here is a very simply recipe for some good messy play. It is like play dough but a twist - a different texture ( and colors). It could get very shiny, glossy and slippery. Awesome mess!

Here's the recipe:

500g flour (i sometimes use expired powdered milk)
240ml water
240ml cooking oil
1-2 tsp food color

Mix and squish and squash! Mommy gets some quiet time for herself!
