Turkish Dessert: Canakkale Peynir Helvasi

 Canakkale Peynir Helvasi

This dessert is one of the famous dish in Canakkale and Balikesir. Locals usually make this dish and sell in the markets at the weekends,

Since my husband spent 4 years in Canakkale,  it became his favorite dish and he wants everybody to know how to prepare the dish - especially me. Ha!

What you will need:
1 kg Cheese unsalted made from Sheep milk
3 egg yolk
750 grams sugar. (that's a lot!)
750 grams semolina

How to prepare:
Mix 800 grams of cheese , semolina and egg yolk in a big metal container on medium heat and keep stirring until the ingredients are well mixed and melted. Then, add 200 grams  of cheese and sugar after the ingredients turned in goldish color.

Pour all in to a deep tray in order to cook in the oven for 15-20 minute. Dish can be serve warm.

Believe me, this is a really sweet dessert!

Afiyet Olsun!

  2. Oh I'm looking forward to trying this! Should the cheese be soft? I've never seen hard sheep's cheese available where we are.

I'm going to feature this post on our site.

Thanks as ever for sharing xx

  3. Is 750 grams or 750 + 200 g of sugar?
