Turkish Dishes: Asure

It is believed that when Noah's Ark came to a resting spot by Mount Ararat in Turkey , Noah celebrated with a special dish. Since the supply of arc only consisted of some grains, nuts and dry fruit. Today those ingredients are being used in this Turkish dish -Asure.

In Turkey, Turks cook in large quantities to commemorate the arc's landing and given to friends, neighbors, relatives etc, without regard of religions as offering of peach and love. Asure is cooked during winter.

Asure in several small portions


Preparation time: 8 hours
Cooking time: 1 hr


What will you need:
250 gram chicken peas
250 gr dry fig
250 gr beans
250 gr raisin
100 gr dry apricot 
100 gr peanut
2 cups of sugar
1 table spoon cinnamon 
15 cups of water

200 gr wheat
3 table spoon rice

How to prepare:

  1. Eight hours earlier, Wheat should be cooked until it boils
  2. Chicken peas and beans should be cooked until they get shorten in a separate pots.
  3. Rinsed rice should be added into the wheat pot and cooked for 10 minutes.
  4. Softened  chicken peas and beans should to be added in to wheat pot and keep cooking for 10 minutes
  5. Lastly, dry fig, apricot, nuts  can be added and cooked for 15 minute.
  6. Leave the pot to cook and pour in to small soup dishes.
  7. Put some cinnamon on top then serve cool.
